SPARTANBURG, SC  – A USC Upstate student was killed in a crash on Interstate 85 northbound in Spartanburg County, early Sunday morning.

The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office says 22-year-old Raziya Nicole Maira Prince died in the crash.

The wreck happened near mile marker 70 around 3:00am.

“Our hearts are heavy as we collectively mourn the loss of Raziya Prince,” said USC Upstate Chancellor Tom Moore. “The USC Upstate campus community extends its heartfelt condolences to Raziya’s family and loved ones. Our University remains Spartan Strong.”

Highway Patrol says the Prince was heading north on I-85, then ran off the right side of the road.

Prince’s 2010 Toyota hit a guardrail and flipped over and Prince was thrown from the car.

Highway Patrol says Prince was not wearing a seat belt at the time and she died at the scene.
