GREENVILLE, SC (WSPA) – Thomas Hurbert Franklin, of Greenville, threatened to harm Department of Social Services staff after his son was taken into state custody, according to the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say Franklin threatened that he was going to the DSS office on Monday, around 3 p.m., to get his son back and to injure multiple DSS workers while he was there.

Deputies were outside of the office yesterday, waiting on Franklin, when he arrived around 2:45 p.m. They were able to stop him before he entered the DSS office.

Franklin was taken into custody, and deputies found a handgun, ammunition, knives, and a machete in his car according to a report.

Franklin was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and was placed in the Greenville County Detention Center. Deputies did not specify why Franklin’s son was taken into state care.
