FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A robbery suspect was shot by a would-be victim just as the suspect kicked in a bedroom door during the home invasion on Tuesday, Cumberland County officials say.
The incident was reported in the 1600 block of Eureka Ave. in Fayetteville when a man called 911 and reported an unknown man came into the house with a gun and told him to get on the floor, said Sean E. Swain, spokesman for the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
The victim’s brother, who was in a bedroom at the time, heard the commotion and came out to see what was happening, Swain said in a press release.
The brother saw the initial victim face down on the floor with a gun pointed at him. So, the brother then ran back to his bedroom to retrieve a gun.
Seconds later, the suspect kicked open the bedroom door and he was then shot by the brother, officials said.
The Sheriff’s Office and medics arrived shortly after the shooting, Swain said.
Medical personal transported the injured robbery suspect to Cape Fear Valley Health Systems, where he was later air lifted to UNC Hospital.
Sheriff’s Office detectives later identified the robbery suspect, who was shot as Clarence Kebreau, according to Swain.
Kebreau has an address listed as 1834 Village Lake Drive in Charlotte, Swain said. Kebreau is still under the care of UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.
