MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – A bloody box labeled “human remains” found near a ditch off of Palmetto Pointe Boulevard Thursday morning was full of rotten vegetables.

According to Horry County Police Lt. Raul Denis, the box was found near a ditch off Palmetto Pointe Boulevard around 9:30 a.m. Thursday. Denis said the box was bagged by EMS and turned over to the Horry County Coroner’s Office for further investigation.

Horry County Coroner Robert Edge says a deteriorating tomato and onion was all that was found inside the box. He adds that the “blood” covering the cardboard is likely food coloring. A doctor tested the box for bodily fluids, but nothing was discovered.

“I suppose you could’ve made a tomato, onion sandwich,” laughed Edge.
