FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – The Circus of Dreams is in Florence and this year organizers brought in a new group of performers from across the country.
The circus is a fifth-generation family of performers and high walkers. The family has been touring in the United States since 1952 and has been producing circuses since the early seventies.
Familiar acts include circus favorites like acrobats, clowns, animals, dancers among many others.
New this year is the pre-show, held an hour before each performance. The pre-show includes a backstage tour along with the opportunity for families to pet some of the animals, take photos, learn dance moves and get autographs from circus members.
“Our performers are throughout the arena so they get to meet some of the people here, so it’s a very fun experience to get a little feeling of being in the center ring. A lot of people always get to come in and sit in the seats but actually to be standing in the center ring and get that feeling is a great feeling,” mentioned circus producer Serge Coronas.
Event organizers at the Florence Civic Center say each year they try bring in different groups of performers.
Florence Civic Center spokesperson Chasity Wilson says events like these take careful planning and coordination but benefit the entire community.
“We try to offer so many different varieties of events, shows, and family activities anywhere from ice skating to monster jam to basketball. If you name it, we can bring it in and it pulls from every corner of the community,” said Wilson.
There will be an evening show Friday at 7 p.m. The circus will end with two shows on Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
