PEMBROKE, NC – The Friends of the Mary Livermore Library will be sponsoring their 15th Annual Fund Raiser on Friday, April 29, 2016. The theme of this year’s event is “Exploring Harper Lee: The Dichotomy of Atticus Finch.” The evening will begin with a reception and a delicious down-home, but elegant, Southern buffet dinner in the Library. Dr. Windy Pearce Miller will present Harper Lee’s latest publication, Go Set a Watchman. Dr. Miller is the Chair of the Department of English, Theatre and Foreign Languages at UNC Pembroke. She received her Ph.D. in Southern Literature from the University of Mississippi. After the presentation, the attendees will proceed to the newly renovated Moore Hall Auditorium and view the movie To Kill a Mockingbird.
The annual benefit is the Friends of the Library’s main source of fund raising. The fund raisers have allowed us to sponsor nine FOL scholarships for UNCP students. Four of the scholarships, that are awarded annually, are endowed. One un-endowed scholarship and four book scholarships are also awarded yearly.
