HUGER, SC (WCBD) – Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis says all deputies are okay, but the suspect in Tuesday’s shooting incident is deceased.
Sheriff Lewis said the incident began when a deputy attempted to pull a suspect over in Huger.
At that time, the suspect opened fire on the deputy, leaving the law enforcement officer trapped behind their vehicle.
Photos tweeted out by BCSO shows a vehicle unit riddled with bullet holes. Sheriff Lewis says several vehicles were damaged in the shootout which lasted for about 30 minutes.
We’re told deputies tried to negotiate with the suspect who is now deceased.
No other injuries were reported.
