Florence school district 5 is conducting a search to identify children with disabilities.

The school district wants to make sure children with disabilities get signed up for the ‘Child Find’ program before they’re enrolled in school.

“The earlier we can get them, the more positive outcome we can expect,” said Beth Snowden, special services director.

The ‘Child Find’ program aims to help children at the age of three, with autism, visual impairment, emotional disability, traumatic brain injury, and much more.

“Depending on the child and depending on the disability, they may start for a small part of the day and then work up. They can get the services here as well,” said Snowden.

The program will not only help children, but also families and providers. It will plan appropriate services for students at an early age. Organizers said this will help children make an easier transition from school to school.

“If you have a child with disabilities, seek services from your school district because the sooner they’re served the more positive outcome can occur,” said Snowden.

Florence school district 5 will have open registration on March 13 at Johnsonville elementary school from 8:30a.m. to 4:00p.m.
