LATTA – Javon McGirt hopes to lead Latta to a second straight state baseball title next month, but as he and the Vikings push forward through the Class A playoffs, he’s already preparing for his future.
McGirt signed with USC Sumter Thursday. He knows he’ll feel at home because he has family there.
“I figured I might as well go up there,” the center fielder said. “It’s a little bit easier for me, and I have a place to stay. And it’s a good program up there.”
Vikings football star Kartilus McFadden signed with Palmetto Prep. The running back hopes it will prepare him to join a larger school in the next couple years, but in the meantime he plans to bring a great skill set to the Minutemen.
“I’m a very hard runner, very fast, hard working in everything I do – weight room, everything,” McFadden said. “I’m there to win, do my best.”
McFadden drew interest from Campbell, Fayetteville State, Newberry and Methodist during the recruiting process.
