MYRTLE BEACH, SC – On average, one American dies from stroke every four minutes. People of all ages can have a stroke. As we age, the risk of stroke increases, but there are risk factors that can be controlled to lower that risk. In honor of National Stroke Awareness Month, Grand Strand Health will sponsor an inaugural Outsmart Stroke event along with a seminar about the Advances in Stroke and Neurovascular Care.
The Outsmart Stroke event will be held in front of HealthFinders inside Coastal Grand Mall on Monday, May 9 from 5:30 – 7:30pm. Participants can receive discounted and free screenings, view demonstrations and meet our experts. The booths and screenings at the event will include:
- FREE Stroke Risk Assessments – Heart rhythm check included
- ‘Ask a Doc’ – Meet Grand Strand Health’s Stroke Medical Director and Neurologist Robert Coni, DO
- City of Myrtle Beach EMS will check blood pressure and provide information
- Discounted A1C screenings: $15 (cash or check)
- Hands-Only CPR demonstration
- Stroke prevention tips from a dietitian
- Ask a pharmacist
On Thursday, May 12 from 6 – 7 pm, Interventional Neuroradiologist Christopher Durst, MD, with Carolina Radiology Associates, will present Advances in Stroke and Neurovascular Care. Dr. Durst will discuss new treatment options that use less invasive radiology procedures for ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes.
