BENNETTSVILLE, SC (WBTW) – The Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help finding the person responsible for severely abusing a dog.

According to a press release, the dog was found in the Academy Road area of Marlboro County last week. The Humane Society of the United States is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for severely and cruelly injuring a dog.

A concerned citizen called Marlboro County animal control after noticing the condition the dog was in. The dog appears to not have eaten well for some period of time and has been severely abused. The type of abuse inflicted is cruel and strange and a criminal investigation has been initiated after the MCSO was notified by a local veterinarian. .

The dog has undergone several medical procedures at two veterinary hospitals and is expected to recover.
