Man accused of stealing checks from his mother, on the run with woman

OLD FORT, NC – A couple in McDowell County face charges after investigators say the man stole checks from his mother.

Joshua Charles Barrier, 34, of Old Fort, North Carolina was charged with felony obtaining property by false pretense and misdemeanor larceny by the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say Barrier stole two checks from his mother in early April and used them for purchases at stores in the county.

Ashley Renee Johnson, 29, of Marion is charged with two felony counts of obtaining property by false pretense and one misdemeanor count of larceny.

McDowell County investigators say the two were on the run for several days before they were caught.
