SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – One local group hosted a food drive Saturday at several Walmart locations in the area.

Volunteers with Help 4 Kids collected donations for its Backpack Buddies program.

The program feeds 3,000 kids in 28 different Horry County schools.

“I think it’s a calling from the lord to help people in the community, if we’re not going to help them who will?” said volunteer Theresa Myers.

The students don’t get school lunches on weekends, so the group delivers snack bags for the them to take home on Fridays.

“We don’t want any child to be left behind or not get food to eat at night. I’ve never gone to bed hungry and I don’t want them to,” said Myers.

It’s the 10th year for the program, they hold four food drives each month.

As part of our Count on Kids program, News13 will host the next one.

It’s June 25th at the Walmart in Garden City.
