CAROLINA FOREST, SC (WBTW) – Tuesday evening, crews responded to the scene of a working fire at the Reserve at Ridgewood Apartments on Signature Drive in the Carolina Forest area of Horry County.
Chief Le Hendrick with Conway Fire says the call came in at 5:42 p.m. and crews had the fire contained by 6:50 p.m. Firefighters from Horry County Fire Rescue, Conway Fire and Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue all responded.
Twelve apartment units within the one building were involved in the two-alarm fire. Hendrick says none of the occupants were seriously injured in the incident. A press release from the Red cross said that 17 people were receiving assistance after being displaced.
Brian VanAernem with Horry County Fire Rescue says firefighters dealt with heavy flames and smoke, and also major damage to the side of the building. VanAernem said the second and third floors had the most damage.
According to VanAernem, two firemen were hurt. One was treated on scene and the other was transported to Conway Hospital for heat exhaustion.
Officials say the cause of the fire as well as where it started is still under investigation.
